Introduce major methods for lexical translation. Introduce major methods in sentential translation. Introduce some strategies for discourse translation. Difficulties Examples： 1）His parent came to the school to see him . (lexical gap ) 他的家长来学校看他。 2）They are entertaining women (linguistic ambiguity ) 她们正在招待女客人。/她们是女招待。 3) She was a cat . (cultural connotation ) 她是一个心肠很坏的女人。 4) David was in a clear majority (mode of expression) 显然大卫属于大多数。 My husband took the papers to the cabinet (false friends / faux amis) 我的丈夫拿着大把的手纸去洗手间了。 cabinet : washroom She was a magpie . 她是一个饶舌妇。 （cultural connotation/figurative meaning） magpie : talkative person 7）A new dignity crept into his walk．走路的姿态不知什么时候开始给人一种庄重的印象。/他走起路来，不觉平添了几分尊严。(literary / figurative language) 8) You are telling me. 我早知道了，不用你告诉我。（false friends / faux amis） Other difficulties: abbreviations, wordplay, idioms, onomatopoeia, long sentences, neologisms, ads, etc. 翻译中一词多义/句法歧义(linguistic ambiguity)： The water is still in the lake. The storm is over there. The man turned out an impostor. (cheat). He lives very near(poor/stingy). I found him out(not at home). John paints nudes. (draw/put the paint on).
