Peking University, Beij ing 100871, China) Abstract: Starting from the basic rules of Olympic event development , the paper explores the main reason for the increasing number of modern Olympic events and some suggestions are put forw ard. It. s believed that the set- up of events in the previous Olympic Games w as not stable, which demonstrated in the rapid increase of minor events had amounted to 120. 60 % . It show s that the expansion of Olympic events should be attributed to the increase in minor events, especially the disorderly increase of minor events w hich w ere previously aff iliated to some major events.
