In the development of American educational psychology, there are still the influences of humanism in addition to these three thoughts. Early in this century, by Parke (F.W.Parker, 1837 - 1902) and Dewey (J.Deway1859 - 1952) led by the advocacy of progressive education movement, is based on the humanism education thought as its theoretical basis, but the impact on educational psychology is not. At the same time, after the Second World War, the progressive education movement was gradually weakened because it was considered to influence the quality of school knowledge teaching. Based on the theory of natural humanity, humanistic psychology, headed by Rodgers and Maslow, advocates the self actualization of man or personality, and believes that the growth of man or personality originates from the tendency of individual self actualization. In his book psychological basis and human value (1968), Maslow emphasizes that the formation of personality stems from the pressure of human nature. People are not cast, molded or educated.. The function of the environment is only to allow or help him to realize his potential, not his potential, he said. Culture is sunshine, food and water, but it is not seed.. From this point of view, the role of education in their view is only to stimulate human potential, but not beyond the inherent potential of human beings.
