Ask the students to read the new words one by one as the same time others correct him/ her pronunciation. 精讲与点拨 Tend 【观察】观察tend在下列各句中的词性、含义及用法。 1. Janet tends to get very angry if you can’t satisfy her demands. 2. Charles tends towards obesity. 3. Sofia was tending to her son in the bedroom. 4. Mary will tend the garden while you’ re on vacation. 5. The nurse skillfully tended the soldiers’ wound. 【点拨】 从以上例句我们可以看出,tend既可作及物动词也可作不及物动词。 作不及物动词时,意为“易于”,构成tend to do sth. 结构,意为“易于做某事”(句1)；“________”,后常接towards或to(句2)；“照顾”,构成tend to sb. / sth. 结构(句3)。 作及物动词时,意为“________”(句4、句5)。 Glance 【观察】 观察glance在下列各句中的词性、含义及用法。 1. The teacher, Wyatt, glanced around the classroom before starting a lesson. 2. Rachel glanced nervously at her watch. 3. Alice gave Tom a quick glance and smiled when they met for the first time. 4. Flora took a glance at the notepad to see if there were any messages for her. 5. I could tell at a glance that I had passed the exam. 6. At first glance, Henry seems to be a serious man. 【点拨】 glance作动词,意为“看一下,扫视”(句1、句2),后常接介词或副词,说明扫视的方向或对象。 glance作名词,意为“一瞥”(句3至句6),常构成短语take / have a glance at ...,意为“看一眼/瞥一眼”(句4), ________看一眼(句5),at first glance乍一看(句6)。 quantities of quantities of大量的,其后既可以跟可数名词,也可以跟不可数名词。如： 1.
