“There had been no years” --- artistic conception in Once More to the Lake --汤文飞 23号 About the author--Elwyn Brooks White Elwyn Brooks “E.B.” White (July 11,1899 - October 1,1985) was an American writer, best known as the author of children’s books Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little(精灵鼠小弟) He was a contributor to The New Yorker magazine and a co-author of the English language style guide The Elements of Style(文体指南) Once More to the Lake Taken from one man’s meat(一个人的见解) Lyric Prose(抒情散文) Lake—lake in Maine(缅因) The translations of the title-- 《再到湖上》《重回缅湖》《重回湖上》 Structure Summary (para1) White writes about his memory of the vacation with his dad on the lake in Maine and he decided to revisit it with his son. (para2-3) When he arrived there, he realized that nothing changed too much at first. He remembers about the experience with his dad which same as what he is doing with his son now. (para4-8)He was haunted repeatedly with the sensation sharpened by the sameness between the present and the past both in nature and human behavior. (SonFather) (para9-11) “I” felt the peace and goodness and jollity in that place. However, “I” discovered that peaceful place was no more there, replaced by motor boats which were noisy in the morning. (para12) Lately, when White and his son were at the lake, a thunderstorm came up. White realized that his son’s generation was totally different from his generation.
