外文原文资料 Design of an Automatic Meter Reading System A microprocessor-based automatic meter reading system is implemented, which provides a cost-effective, reliable, and interference free data transfer between remote meter reading units and the utility control center. The meter reading and management processes are free from human involvement. Based on the existing telephone networks, it is very flexible for the utility companies to access, service and maintain this meter reading system. A user friendly and window based user interface is designed which fully utilizes the personal computers terminate and stay resident programming technique to achieve communications between the remote meter reading units and the personal computers in the utility control center. This paper describes the hardware design of the remote reading unit and the software implementation of the communication module and user interface. 1. INTRODUCTION This paper describes the Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system, an integrated and programmable meter reading and control system over existing telephone networks. The AMR system is an automated, two-way system for remote reading and management of utility meters. The meter reading and management processes are free from human involvement. Accuracy, speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness are the expected benefits achievable using the AMR system. The overall system is based upon the existing telephone networks, therefore the service can reach anywhere there is a telephone . All this is accomplished electronically and truly automatically, thus ending manual (and semi-automatic) meter reading and entry, call-backs, reading errors, and billing floats. The AMR system should provide 100% coverage of all meters. In section 2, the AMR system which consists of Remote Reading Units (RRU) and the Communication Front End (CFE) is described. The RRUs functions and implementations are described in section 3. Finally, conclusions are provided in the last section. 2. AM
