She was born in a forest entomologist family in Ottawa in 1939, and lived in her youth in northern Quebec and Ontario, and later in Toronto. She attended the University of Toronto, majoring in English, with minors in Philosophy and French and received her B.A. with honors in 1961. She finished her postgraduate study in 1962 and received a masters degree from Radcliff College in Massachusetts. But the Ph.D. study at Harvard was suspended by her writing career, which she has never accomplished. Margaret Atwood is now the author of more than thirty books: novels, short stories, poetry, literary criticism, political essays, social history, ecological writings, and books for children. She has published over 15 poetry collections, 12 novels, 8
