What are the similarities and differences between the content and process theories of motivation? From: Motivation. 65, 73.Both content theories of motivation and process theories of motivation are contributed to explain what energizes human behavior, what channels or directs that behavior, and how can certain behavior be sustained or maintained over time. However, content theory focuses on individual needs and different variables that energize human behavior, while process theory focuses on behavior and explains the process of motivation in terms of the factors that channel or direct behavior.What are the problems and deficiencies of the content theories?From: Motivation. 66-67, 73.There are some problems and deficiencies of the content theories. First, its theories explain human motivation in general rather than the creation of an empirically testable model and focus on people’s needs at a given point in time rather than on predicting behavior, which makes it difficult in practice. Second, its validity largely relies on theories of rational choice. Third, people vary considerably in the way in which they respond to similar aspects of their job, that many different needs may be simultaneously operating, and that other factors rather than unfulfilled needs are influential in motivation. What do the process theories attempted to add to better explain motivational processes?Expectancy theory provides a framework for understanding how motivation operates. Path-Goal theory focus on the examination of motivation and the way in which such diagnosis can influence the management of performance.
