Grammar 3: Adjectives adverbs I. Used as attributives: 1. 形容词排列顺序:限定词(the/a/this/that…)+描述性adj(good, nice, fine, kind, great, famous, beautiful) +size(大小、长短、高矮) +形状(方圆)+年龄+新旧+颜色+国籍+材料(限定描绘大长高,形状年龄和新老。颜色国籍和材料,功能类别往后靠。) eg. a pretty tall young girl; the round old stone table; a black Chinese metal printing machine 2. 不定冠词的特殊位置: 1). What /many/such + a/an + adj. +c.n.(sl) eg. Can you believe that in such a rich country there should be so many poor people? 2). how/so/as/too/very +adj. +a/an+n. Eg. He is as good a teacher as his father. 3). half/quite/rather +adj. + a/an+ c.n. (sl)= half/quite/rather a/an +adj + c.n. (sl) eg. He asked me rather/quite a complicated problem./ rather/quite complicated a problem. 4). quite/rather +a/an +n. 用于加强语气。 Eg. We bought quite/rather a book on the way. 3. 修饰以-thing, one, body结尾的不定代词时必须后置。 Eg. ---Is there anything new in today’s newspaper? ---No, there’s nothing new. 4. enough修饰形容词或副词时通常后置;作形容词修饰名词时可前可后。 5. 副词排列顺序: 程度副词 +方式副词 +地点副词 +时间副词 Eg. We’ll meet under the clock at the railway station at 7:00 on Monday morning. II. Used as predicative. 1. 只作表语的形容词: glad, fond, worth , asleep, awake, afraid 2. 不受副词修饰表语形容词:(wide)open/awake,(sound/fast)asleep 3. 系动词: 1). 状态: be/seem/look/appear/prove/feel 2). 状态改变: become/ turn/ get/grow/ fall/ go/ come 3). 状态保持: keep/stay/remain/continue III. Used as adverbials and complement: eg. a. He looked back again and again, full of fear. b. One woman was lying in bed, awake, listening to the rushing winds. c. He returned home hurriedly, anxious. d. What he said made me a little angry. IV. Comparison of adjectives and adverbs. 1. A = B 1). A be as +原级+ as B / A be not as(so) +原级+ as B: eg. a. He is a boy as tall as I ./ He is as tall a boy as I . b. It’s generally believed that teaching is it is a science. A. as art much as B. much an art as C. as an art much as D. as much an art as 2). as +原级+as ever/possible/one Can(could)/ one do(be) eg. a. He is as strong as ever. b.
