Teaching contents: Reading skills: skimming and scanning Vocabulary: unexplained, puzzled, disappear, witness, assume, aboard, dismiss, possibility Expressions: step up, receive great interest, see sb. doing, put on, get ready for, pull back, show up, call the police, sth. happen to sb., do research on…, make up, take charge of, there’s no hard evidence that…, Language skills: reading, speaking Teaching aids: PPT, blackboard, chalks, pictures Teaching procedures: Step 1. Pre-reading (10 mins ) teacher shows students some pictures about the UFO and the aliens. teacher summarizes and introduces today’s topic “the unexplained”. teacher asks students to complete the title, and to predict the contents of the text, then students give different understandings toward the title, teacher summarizes. teacher introduces the reading strategy towards this article: how to read a newspaper article. Step 2. While-reading (30 mins) teacher asks students to skim the first paragraph to find out the supporting details as follows: who, what ,when, where and why did people show great interest. 1.
