Ｎｙｉｍａ　Ｃｏｕｎｔｙ　Ｂａｔｈｅｄ　ｉｎ　Ｓｕｎｓｈｉｎｅ 　　Situated in the lake basin of Changtang Plateau in the northwest part of Nagchu Prefecture and surrounded by Mts. Kunlun and Kukushiri at the north and Mt. Gangdise at the south, although Nyima County covers over 150 thousand sq. kilometres, it is populated with less than 30 thousand people. 　　The phrase Nyima means the sun in Tibetan. Locally, people argue that Nyima County is the closest place to the sun. 　　Gonzha, a good friend of mine, was the vice administrator of the county for many years. After retirement, he is unwilling to move to Lhasa; instead he always invites friends from Lhasa to visit north Tibet. Over the years we have become familiars. 　　I was always fond of the small downtown area of Nyima County with only one street and two sidewalks in the downtown. Many grassy plots, fenced by iron sticks, can be spotted on the street -we may claim this is a manifestation of a green attitude on the part of the locals. Interestingly, some plastic grass is also positioned at the sides of the street to express the desire for greenery, which is understandable in an area like north Tibet because of the difficulty of growing greenery due to the unfavorable climate conditions. The brick paving of the sidewalks elegantly decorates the whole image of the city, but is practical as well. Buildings along the street are all new, stylized in a combination of traditional and modern Tibetan architecture. The image style of the city is thus at once soft, practical and unique. The locals always say all of the beauty and practicality is due to the contributions of the cadres who came from the hinterland to support Tibet; this is the new downtown of the county built through one of the hinterland cadres support projects. 　　 　　The ordinary family of a herdsman. 　　 　　While chatting with locals in this county, you will frequently hear phrases like support projects and support cadres referring to the cadres from hinterland through the support pr
