The single tax in silver，itself was a eformation which the Ming court executed to maintain stability in response to the serious financial crisis. Since born in the Jiajing era，it had alleviated these problems of the original tax law on certain level. Because of this, Zhang Juzhengs cabinet vigorously promoted the single tax in silver ，in order to deal with serious financial deficit, which received good results. However, the single tax in silver system itself did not touch the real facts which lead to these problems. And these problems outbreak one by one after Zhang’s death，causing the single tax ended in bankruptcy with Ming court finance. This article will reveal the rise of the single tax in silver system form the perspective of Institution change. We also talks about its death form the aspect of Transaction and Path-Dependence.
