Setting： Upon Biffs departure from Franks Chop House, Willy is immersed in the memory of the teenage Biffs visit to him in Boston. Stanley picks up a chair and follows Happy and Letta off. Knocking is heared off left. The Woman enters, laughing. Willy follows her. She is in a black slip; he is buttoning his shirt. Raw, sensuous music(性感的音乐) accompanies their speech. Main Characters (Analysis): 1. Willy Lowman: Willy is self-centered for he has carelessly ruined the lives of those around him, especially for Biff . b) It is Willys infidelity that prompted the change in Biff, as he learned that his father was having an affair with the woman in Boston. Willys life falls into disorder at this time. To achieve success, he sacrificed principles and betrayed his family. He blames his behavior on loneliness, actually it is the result of his need for attention. The affair is a betrayal of Linda and the boys, who center their lives on him. Once he cheats on Linda, Willy denigrates（玷污） himself, and this diminution（改变） of his character is unrecoverable. The affair negates all of Willys tales of greatness that have motivated Biff up to this point. As a result, Willy is responsible for Biffs downward spiral. Biff did not attend summer school or graduate because of Willy’s perfidy（不诚实）. Now he is incapable of achieving success because he possesses no faith in his father or himself. 3.The Woman The Woman is a nameless but a key character who has a continuing affair with Willy. When Biff finds the Woman in Willys hotel room, he begins his course of self-destructive behavior. Summary： The Woman claims that Willy ruined her, and that whenever he comes to the office she will send him in to the buyers. The knocking persists, Willy orders the Woman to stay in the bathroom while he opens the door. Biff tells Willy that he flunked(考试不及格) math, and begs Willy to convince his teacher to pass him.
