Managing Database File Database concepts Data file contains information that has been organized in a uniform format The tasks associated with maintaining and assessing the data stored in a data file are often referred to as Data Management Fields : A field contains the smallest unit of meaningful data, so we can it as a basic building block. Data types The data type specifies the way the data is represented in the memory. The two most common data types are Numeric and character. The numeric data type contains only numbers The character data type which is also referred as “ string data type”. Social security numbers are stored as character data. The logical data type is used to store true/false or yes/no data using minimal storage space. An entity is a person, place, thing or event about which you want to store data. A record contains fields of data about one entity. The record structure is referred to as record type. Data Model (Pg no : 623) A data model is a description of the way that data is stored in a database. A relationship is an association between entities.
