The Peking opera surmounts language barriers and the cultural difference of the East and the West, attracting fans from over the world. The Peking opera is a typical comprehensive art, integrating poesy, song, music, dance, martial art and fine art. Peking Opera has promoted the birth of the Chinese Film: the first Chinese movie was Conquer the Mountain Junsha, episode from The Romance of Tree Kingdoms. Over hundred adaptations were made from Peking Opera during 100 years, and the poetic charm of the Peking opera’s masters and its classic masterpieces were luckily preserved on film. The Peking opera has inspired the aesthetics thinking of Chinese filmmakers. Taking the Peking opera’s essence, carrying forward its freehand artistic spirit, the Chinese film has absorbed the Peking opera’s useful experiences in various aspects, including traditional ethics, narrative standards, characters’ masks, performance conventions, acton signification, action space and rhetoric. The Peking opera with long history has cultivated an aesthetics tradition: “the beauty is admired by scholars and laymen alike”.
