The upcoming slides show a more detailed look at the management abstraction that enables new levels of ease, speed, and automation that are completely unique to Symmetrix VMAX in the high-end market. On the right, you see a number of key capabilities that virtual server environments provide—the ability to quickly provision resources on demand, nondisruptive mobility, policy-based resource management, and centralized management and control. On the left, you see a number of important capabilities that EMC delivers for virtual environments. Only the Symmetrix VMAX array combines all of these management capabilities with the scalability and availability of a high-end storage system. This sets the Symmetrix VMAX series apart from any other storage system. Symmetrix Virtual Provisioning improves storage utilization through thin provisioning, and simplifies the process of allocating and provisioning storage. Virtual Provisioning makes it easy to add storage resources on demand as applications need it. Users can also add capacity as thin pools start to fill, leveraging automated scripts, and drain thin pools to reclaim unneeded capacity. The combination of Auto-Provisioning Groups and Virtual Provisioning sets the Symmetrix VMAX series apart from other vendors. The left side of the slide shows a comparison of the number of steps required to provision capacity. The right side shows the amount of time required. When the Auto-Provisioning Groups feature available on the Symmetrix VMAX array is added, the result is 96 percent fewer clicks in 80 percent less time. Virtual Storage Integrator is a key capability that addresses the management control concerns of storage administrators who want to allow virtual server administrators to have access to storage resources to provision capacity.
