To begin with, I have to confess that I did not do very well on study recently, not because I did not spend much time on it, but because I never seem to get the point of the textbook. Although most of my classmates have similar response, I still feel at a loss. And I dislike this kind of feeling very much. Before I started the class, I thought the sociolinguistics is very interesting and useful, because I love something that is related to the society. However, reading this textbook makes me frustrated somehow. I know theories are quite indispensable for study, but up to now, I can not find its usefulness. With the wonder about some sociolinguistic linguistic items, as well as the expectation to get a thorough understanding of them, I read this book, but I was always disappointed and even more confused. In your class, I am satisfied. Since I have attended your class, I have made a decision that in my lifetime, I must go to some countries, and Singapore will be prior to others. And it is you that told us Singapore are worth visiting and studying. I like your class, because I like to share our own language experiences with each other in the class, talk about different language phenomena in the society, and listen to your summary about them. In this way, we can not only have deeper impression about the language features in different communities, but acquire such knowledge more systematically. In the past two weeks, I have collected some materials about foreign languages educational policies at home and abroad. During this process, I broadened my horizon and enlarged my experience, for I have never known what languages educational policies are specifically like in those typical countries, including Singapore, Luxembourg, Denmark and Netherlands, etc. I admire people in these countries who can speak at least two languages. But for a student of linguistic, if I still stand in the stage of admiration, it seems that I am incompetent. From my point of view, we should pay mo
