The function of the Housing Ministers Conference (HMC) is to provide a forum for the formulation of nationally consistent policies on welfare and low income housing issues. Members include Ministers with primary responsibility for social housing portfolios in the Australian and State and Territory Governments, the New Zealand Housing Minister and the President of the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA). Representatives from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) have observer status.
