TheChinesecharactersusedbyacomputerarereferredtointhetablenamed “Codeofthe JapaneseGraphicCharacterSetforInformationInterchange”asJapaneseIndustrialStandardJIS- C-6226.Thetablecontains6,353ChinesecharactersusedinordinaryJapanesesentences. TheresultsoftheinvestigationshowthatthenumberofkindsofChinesecharactersusedfor theexpressionofplacenamesisaround3,000.Around2,600kindsofcharacters,amongthem,are includedinthetable.Thesufficientl 】ossibilityofusingacomputerforplacenamesaftertheadoption ofaround50additionalcharacterstosuchatableisshown.Thefrequencyofuseoftheremaining 400charactersisextremelylow.
