Foreign Affairs Office, Liaoning T echnical University, Fuxin 123000, China) Abstract: This article elaborates concept of motivation from multiple perspectives, including motivation definition, classification, importance as w ell as the enlightenment to foreign language teaching. Based on the factors of cognition, emotion, social environment the paper analyzes the influence on motivation. Through case study of Dalian Maritime University 2007 English majors contrastive analysis is made of the relation betw een academic record and motivation, explaining that how motivation influences the sec ond language acquirision. In practice it is proved that the learners motivation has the important guiding significance to second language acquistion.
