It is a theoretical and experimental field of study, which looks at the phenomenon of language development . It is a multidisciplinary field whose goal is to understand the processes that underlie non-native language learning. The Second Language Acquisition Program draws from varied academic disciplines, among them linguistics, psychology, psycholinguistics, sociology, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis and education science. History It used to be subject to language teaching methodology aiming at increasing teaching efficiency. SLA first established itself as a field of enquiry around the end of the 1960s. ----In 1967, Larry Selinker published his book “Language Transfer” laying theoretical foundation for the new discipline. In 1994, Rod Ellis wrote “The Study of Second Language Acquisition” and it has been accepted as the masterpiece in this field.
