Teaching in a Developing Country: Mistakes Made and Lessons Learned in Uganda Stuart R. Cohn The growing use of English as the lingua franca is matched by the use of United States laws as models to emulate in both developed and less developed countries. The result is an increasing flow of information and technology transfer from legal, financial, and technical experts in the U.S. to their counterparts abroad. I have been privileged to be part of that process in recent years, and I have learned that a heres-how-its-done approach is the antithesis of an effective foreign training or teaching program. A recent experience in East Africa brought that point home with particular emphasis.
