韵律修辞FIGURESOFSOUND9TH
FIGURES OF SOUND Alliteration (头韵) Assonance(半谐音) Consonance (辅韵) Onomatopoeia(拟声) 头韵(Alliteration) Alliteration refers to repetition of initial consonants in series of words and/or phrases. Or it is the employment in close connection of two or more words beginning with same letter. Since the letter repeated is usually the initial consonant, alliteration is also called ‘head rhyme’ or ‘front rhyme.’ For example: The lips of leaves, and the ripple of rain. In the English language, some alliterative sounds have their special symbolic implications. Some initial consonant sounds like ‘sl-’ have an implication of slip and smoothness. For example, The slanting carriage was slipping on the slippery ground. Some initial consonant sounds like ‘d-’ and ‘c-’ have an implication of great force or weight. For example, It was that population that gave to California a name for…rushing them through with a magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness of cost or consequences…(by Mark Twain) 3) Some initial consonant sounds like ‘gr-’ and ‘cr-’ have an implication of pressure or depression. For example,
