The Sun’s illustrators provided graphic images based on Herschel’s“descriptions”。 The story caused a sensation in America，and were soon syndicated(供许多报纸同时发表)to newspapers all over the world．Scientists were skeptical about the information, but it seems that no one pointed out that the Edinburgh Journal of Science didn’t actually exist．There had been a magazine with that name but it had closed down more than ten years before． The Sun articles were, of course, an elaborate hoas(骗局).
