In 2011, it was accredited as a National Important Intangible Cultural Heritage. Mazus efficacy is believed to be the main reason behind such a phenomenal change: old, rural devout believers as well as new, young urban artists/scholars/office workers have found their own truths in the annual 400-kilometer journey, following Mazu on foot.This paper will first use structure and anti- structure, two famous concepts on the ritual process proposed by Victor Turner, to discuss the phenomena and experiences of the Baishatun Mazu pilgrims. In the liminal state of the pilgrimage, which lasts about
