The statistics and analysis in the report are based on the latest information available to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. In respect of seizure statistics, the report focuses on 2006 and 2007. With regard to illicit drug crop cultivation and illicit drug production, the report focuses on the period 2006-2008. Cannabis continues to be by far the mostly widely produced, trafficked and consumed plant-based drug worldwide. Global seizures of cannabis resin increased significantly in 2007, in particular in Western and Central Europe; preliminary data also suggest a moderate increase in seizures of cannabis herb.
