First, the complexity of the “kaozhengxue” scholarship in the 18th century China is clarified before we discuss how the characteristic of Dai Zhen’s scholarship had an unusual impact on the scholars of the late 19th century. Second, when we talk about the beginning of the “Daizhenxue” (the study of Dai Zhen’s scholarship), Liu Shi-pei is a critical person that should be mentioned. Japanese scholar Professor Kawata Teiichi of Kansai University discussed the case of Liu in his research paper.
