Lesson 2 History Makers Topic Unit2 Heroes Lesson2 History Maakers Content Students will 1. learn and use the listening strategies: Getting prepared for listening. 2. listen to a radio program to get the specific information about Martin Luther King. 3. practise expressing views using the Function File. 4. discuss what the similarities and the differences between heroes and history makers. Learner outcomes The students will be able to 1. get specific information about Martin Luther King. 2. know one of listening stratigies: Getting prepared for listening. 3. express their views on the hero they choose. Materials Pictures, Recorder Activities Brainstorm the famous people discussion Teaching procedures Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Teaching purpose Step 1 Warming up 1. Show the pictures to the students and ask them to name them and say what they know about them 2. Ask the students to discuss the differences and similarities between heroes and history makers. 3.Ask the students to read the descriptions in Exercise1 and match them with the photos to get the exact information about each person. 1. Look at the pictures and name the famous people to say what they know about them. 2. Discuss the differences and similarities between heroes and history makers. 3. Read the descriptions in Exercise1 and match them with the photos. To lead into the topic and arouse their interest. Step 2 Function File Direct the students to read the key words on expressing opinions and make sure they know the meaning of each word. Play the tape for the students to listen to get the key words and fill in the blanks. Read the key words and learn that they are used to express opinions. 2. Listen to students talking about the people in the photos and fill in the blanks. To get the students to know how to express opinions by using these words.
