With the reform and open policy, China’s entry into the World Trade Organization and the further extension of international contact with other countries, the demand for foreign language talents is becoming greater and greater, and it is an arduous task for our foreign language educators to train and bring up the qualified, high-quality foreign language talents. The 21st century calls for talents with high qualities, who need to be trained by high quality teachers. This requires teachers in 21st-centure dominantly should be qualified for high qualities in ideology, in morality and in culture and ability. English reading is divided into intensive and extensive reading, the two together to improve reading skills. Intensive reading means reading careful and thoroughly, requiring students to grasp all the language points in the text. By teachers’ analyzing the sentences, passage, vocabulary and grammar in detail, students can better understand them and reach the goal of learning. Intensive reading course has a predominant course in English in most English department and sections in the college learning in china. It is the basis of other English course. as far as the promotion of teaching quality is concerned ,it is necessary to survey and improve teaching method for intensive reading, such as bring into full ply the role of both teachers and students.
