陶　　　炼 Abstract : As simplified Chinese characters, which launched in 1956 and finally standardized in A General List of Simplified Chinese Characters reissued in 1986 , drew extensively from the variant forms of Chinese characters appeared in its long history, quite a lot of simplified Chinese characters can been seen in various ancient Chinese dictionaries. But the importance of these recordings was mostly overlooked, the primary efforts were devoted to find the earliest use of simplified Chinese characters. By examining the simplified Chinese characters appeared in Kangxi Dictionary , the last most comprehensive ancient Chinese dictionary compiled in the beginning of 17th century, it is tried to assert with this paper that the recordings of simplified Chinese characters in ancient Chinese dictionaries could be another solid supporting foundation other than actual use.
