RESULTS: Angular Kinematics Segment angle. There was a profound difference between the traditional and ergonomic shovel regarding trunk clockwise rotation. During use of the traditional shovel, the trunk angle varied between 90 and 53 degrees of clockwise motion, displaying a range of motion of 37 degrees. In contrast, the ergonomic shovel showed a smaller range of motion. The maximum and minimum angles were 72 and 55 degrees respectively. This allowed for only 17 degrees of motion about the hip.
