This focus (eg rhythm) can then be further developed into exercises and technical work * Elements of Music Key words * Encourage Instrumental Music staff to highlight the key words in their teaching, as a combined approach. * Enhance students use of language to highlight each of the elements of Music * Can be directly linked to forming technical work and exercises with a specific focus * Can be directly linked to a Listening Journal exercise as a lead in to students’ own program * Students need to make the connection that this will enhance their performance. * Stylistic characteristics * Similarities and differences descriptions. Lock into language used and encourage the use of key words. * LJ could be post 1910 example; Write the chords above the scale and then use as a chord progression aural question; * Weekly homework Deborah Smith text, and aural and theory websites, computer programs such as Auralia * Lynne Morton Belmont High School Music Performance Music Performance Outcome 2 Performance Technique ? Technical work and exercises linked to a Listening Journal approach towards greater understanding of the elements of Music ? The combined class approach using a Listening Journal highlights the elements of Music in a progressive pedagogy to develop greater depth of understanding in the elements of Music. ? Previous and current examiners reports, detail the lack of understanding by many students of the elements of Music eg. melody – students discuss rhythm, dynamics etc but not the characteristics of the melody! This workshop aims to give teachers a Listening Journal approach that highlights a variety of Musical elements and builds on student knowledge progressively throughout the year, to bring depth of understanding.
