Universal Design – make things as accessible as possible to as many users as possible (visual – everyone comes to a glorious ramp to enter the building vs. stairs, no one notices because they naturally move in whereas if there were stairs and other may have to use an alternate entrance). As a result, assessments are developed so students with visual impairments, tactile issues (can click anywhere), reduction of reading content within mathematics, etc. which makes assessments accessible to as many as possible. The reading content will also assist with ELL students or low level readers, so that one can still assess mathematics even though English is not the first language or reading issues don’t penalize them when math is actually what is being assessed. Answers randomized – students near each other will not have same order Teacher developed! Curriculum Based and linked to NCTM Common Core Standards. What we offer vs. contemporaries….When compared to AIMSWEB offers more diversity in assessment…especially with Comprehension component. Performance series is more formative in nature with no specific concentration on phonemic awareness, letter names, or letter sounds. All math assessments are intended to be taken online, but paper/pencil option is available (scores can be entered manually be teacher).
