Obviously, Christmas is a western festival, but Chinese people give it a new meaning, that is “safety and happiness”. And today, the topic of my speech is The Phenomenon of East-West Cultural Integration. First, Let us know about the origin of Christmas. Now, Christmas has been very popular in China, especially among the young people. In addition, American fast food culture has the same situation with western festivals. Everything needs to adjust to the society with the changes of time and space, and culture makes no exception. Generally speaking, I think cultural integration has a lot of advantages. However, cultural independence is also of great significance. I’m with the view that in this modern world, the culture of any nation cannot develop in isolation. Modern means of transportation, telecommunication and mass media have shortened the geographical distance of the world. * The Phenomenon of East-West Cultural Integration 1. The name Christmas is short for Christ’s mass. 2. many of the festivities of Christmas do not have anything to do with religion. 3. Exchanging gifts and sending Christmas cards are the modern ways of celebrating the Christmas in the world. 1. Global integration affects the peoples traditions and customs of different countries and regions.2. Chinese young generation are also absorbing the western culture, such as Christmas, Valentines day, Thanksgiving day, fast food. In my opinion, there mainly are two reasons to expain that why foreign festivals are becoming more and more popular in China. 1. For one thing, each festival is full of strong cultural color. 2. For another thing, these festivals are filled with human interest. There are some reasons for its popularity. 1. There are a variety of fast-food that we can choose what we like. 2. Recently an increasing number
