TheacousticsFaultDiagnosisofGearboxBasedonEMDAbstractThewholeproductionprocesscannotworknormallyifthemechanicalequipment breakdown.Italsocausesthegreateconomiclossesandevenendangersthepersonalsafety. Mechanicalvibrationmustbeaccompaniedbysound,soundsignalsandvibrationsignals withgoodcorrelation.Forexample,theenergydistributionofthecollectedvibrationand soundsignalsareboundtochangeifthereissomethingwrongwiththemechanical equipment.Thecharacteristicsoffaultinformationcanbeextractedthroughanalyzingthe vibrationorsoundsignals.Thesignalacquisitionofacousticfaultdiagnosistechnologyhas theadvantagesofeaseandnon-contactmeasurement.Thetechnologyiswildlyusedbecause itdoesn’taffectthenormalwork,anditcanbeusedintheoccasionsofdifficulttomeasure thevibrationsignal.However,thetechnology alsohasthedisadvantagesofextractingfeature informationdifficultlyinthatthesoundsignalisverylowsignaltoSNRofnon-stationary signals.Therefore,propositionofthispaperbasedontheEMDacousticfaultdiagnosis.The main contents of this paper are as follows:（1）Studyonthevibrationmechanismofgearsandbearingsinthegeartransmissionsystem, the common typeof fault, the reason and the characteristic.（2）Therelationshipbetweenthesoundsignalsandvibrationsignalsareanalyzed theoretically.Thecollectedsoundsignalsandvibrationsignalsareproportionalrelationwhen theacousticsensorarrangedinaspecificposition.Accordingtothisfeature,thelayoutofmultiplemeasuringpointsareanalyzedandcompared,andfinallyelectedthebestmeasuring pointwhichlaidthefoundationtoextractthesoundsignalsprocessingandthecharacteristics ofthe gearboxfault.（3）StudyonthemethodandcharacteristicofEMDanditssimulationanalysisverifythe separation effect of EMD on thesimulation of multicomponent signal is very good.（4）Studyon the application ofEMD frequencyfamilyseparation method ingear faultfeatureextractiontoobtainbetterdiagnosticbyusedEMDmethodtoextractgearfault featuresignal from theaudio signal.（5）Studyon local Hilbert marginal spectrum and its application in extractio
