The disasters had aroused major concern in the community. Undeterred, Hong Kong has continued to develop into one of the most vibrant and fast growing economies in the world. One of the key success factors, I believe, is the efforts put in by the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) in improving slope safety, as a pre-requisite to land development for building and infrastructure construction.
