Abstract Based on the authors multi-year planning and design practice, this article analyzes the features and functions of the modern ecological residential community, and discusses the overall design of the planning and design in detail. It also illustrates the main points of planning and design of the modern ecological residential community in combination with examples. Key words: ecological residential community; planning and design; ecological architecture; ecological balance; sustainable development 1 Introduction In recent years, people have continued to study ways and methods that are conducive to ecological and sustainable development. The concept of ecological architecture has become the mainstream of todays architectural design. Green ecological residential communities have also emerged. The author believes that with the principles and methods of ecology, we must use and reform nature in a controlled way, seek the sustainability that is most suitable for human survival and development, and maintain the built environment as an organic, structural and functional overall system. It is the basic principle and direction of development of ecological architecture. The basic principle of ecology is to maintain a relatively stable equilibrium within the ecosystem - the ecological balance, planning and construction of ecological residential quarters, can improve the human survival and sustainable development of the space environment.
