As you’ll hear about in this morning’s overview, implementing the Speed to Market process is key to achieving our aggressive quality improvement targets. What we learned from our efforts and what we need everyone in the company to understand is that achieving a cycle time objective is NOT simply a function of getting our work done faster. As you will see from this presentation, a sharp focus on cycle time in the execution and launch phases provides a strategic umbrella for simultaneously achieving quality, cost and cycle time objectives. It is in the contribution of this effort to the achievement of our quality and cost objectives that we will reap the real payoff from this initiative. In fact, this initiative requires a fundamental redefinition of the product creation process which enables achieving the balanced results of improved quality, reduced cost and faster cycle time in program execution and launch. Given the expanded scope of the initiative beyond cycle time reduction, we renamed it the Chrysler Development System. Now let’s highlight the structural changes we envision within the process... This slide highlights the key phases of development and some of the macro level changes that we are proposing: An Expanded “Planning Phase” with more iteration and intense problem solving to establish broad feasibility, with a single “Production Intent” Design Release. Note that this is a broader definition of planning than the current definition focused on just the product plan. Shortened “Execution Phase”,
