New Concepts
1. Hair.
DEMONSTRATE
Touch your hair and the students’ hair as you and the classes say hair. Use pictures, yourself or the students in the class to demonstrate long/short/ straight/curly hair.
Show the students different colours of hair with pictures or other examples: black, blond, brown and red. Say the words with the class as you work.
STUDENT BOOK: L21 N1, 2
Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books.
PRACTICE IN SMALL GROUPS
Divide the class into groups of about six students. Give each group some magazines. The groups cut out pictures of people’s heads showing different hair types: long, short, straight, curly, blond, red, brown or black. Each group glues their pictures on a large sheet of paper, and labels the pictures with the correct words. (For example, long hair, black hair, curly hair.)
If some groups cannot find certain types of hair, such as red, blond or curly, they can draw pictures.
The groups could also write speech bubbles for the cut-outs using phrase they know, such as Hello! How are you? My name is ___. I am happy.

This exercise requires the students to draw hair on people’s heads according to directions.
2. Long, short, big, little.
DEMONSTRATE
In Chinese, explain that linear size (demonstrate with your arms) is described in English as long or short. Mass size (demonstrate with your arms) is described in English as big or little.
