ScreeningofCadmium-TolerantCultivars ofCastorbean andTheirAdaptabilitytoCadmiumStressAbstract：Inthepresentstudy,the capacityofcadmium(Cd)tolerance andaccumulation oftencastorbeancultivars(i.e.Fenbi10,YunzaN-1,YunzaN-2,Jinbi4,Zibi5,Zibi7, Hangbi8,Hangbi101,Jiaxiang2,andZhongbei3)wasevaluated.Onthisbasis,two contrastingcultivars,Fenbi10andHangbi101,wereselectedtodeterminethephysiological responses of seedlings with different growth stages to Cd stresses. Meanwhile, theresponsesof photosynthesisandspectralreflectanceinplants of castorbeantodifferentCd stresses werealsoinvestigated. Themainfindingsareshowedasfollows:Cadmiumtoleranceandaccumulationoftencultivarsofcastorbeanweretestedby hydroponicscultureexperiment,under50μmol/LCdcondition.Theresultsshowedthatall cultivarstestedexhibitedrelativehighCdtolerance,andtherewerehighCdaccumulated inboththeshootandroot.Cdcauseddecreaseinplantgrowthfor allcultivars.Onaverage, Cdtreatmentsdecreasedthebiomassofshootsandrootsby42.3%and40.2%compared withthecontrol.Amongcultivars,Jiaxiang2andYunzaN-1showedhightolerancetoCd stress,whileZibi5wasthemostsensitivecultivarstoCdstress.Withregardtoplant organs,theCdconcentrationsinrootsweregreatlyhigherthanthatinshoots.TheCd concentrationsinshootsforallthe10cultivarsofcastorbeanaregreaterthan100mg/kg ofDW,indicatingcastorbeanisatypicalcadmiumaccumulator.Forcultivars,Fenbi10 andZhongbei3showedthehighestshootCdconcentrations,thetotalCdin shoots,aswell asthetranslocationfactors(TF),whereasFenbi10andZhongbei3showthelowestvalues fortheseparameters.The resultindicatedthatcastorbeanmightbeapotentialenergycrops suitableforcultivatinginCd-contaminatedfarmlandforbioenergyproduction,among them,Fenbi10andZhongbei3maybegoodcandidatesforthisapproach.Therewasa negative andsignificantcorrelationbetweenthetoleranceindexandthetranslocation factorsofCd,suggestingmoreCdtranslocatedfromrootstoshoots,lesstolerantcapacity ofplantstoCdstress.ThisresultalsoindicatedthatthemechanismsofCdtolerancemightbeconsideredasatyp
