题 目: The Comparison of Taboos between Chinese and Western Culture 作者姓名 指导教师: 二级学院: 国际语言文化学院 专 业： 英 语 学 号： Abstract As is known to all, in the communication between Chinese and the Western cultures, many people feel strongly the differences between the two cultures on many aspects, such as social life, politics, culture, religion, etc. Any ignorance of social customs and cultural values may not only cause communicative obstacles, but also likely bring about prejudice, offence, even hostility in cross-cultural communications. Thus, a successful cross-cultural communication requires us to break through the cultural barriers. Language and culture intertwine with each other tightly. Language is a part of culture and also the carrier of culture. Taboo, as a special linguistic phenomenon, universally exists in every culture all over the world. There is no denying the fact that taboos in different languages and cultures are of great difference and play a significant role in the success of cross-cultural communication. Therefore, it is imperative to explore the similarities and differences between taboos in Chinese and English cultures so as to avoid the improper use of taboo in cross-cultural communication. This paper deals with the contrast and comparison between Chinese and English taboos in the context of cross-cultural communication and discusses the proper ways to deal with relative taboo use in cross-cultural communication. Key words: intercultural communication; culture; language; taboo 摘要 众所周知，在中西跨文化交际时，很多人感受到两种文化在社会生活、政治、文化和宗教等许多方面存在不同。对文化习俗和价值的忽视不仅会造成交际障碍，使交际受阻，而且会引起一定的误解、冒犯甚至敌意。在跨文化交际日益频繁的今天，要成功实现跨文化交际，我们必须要突破文化和语言之间的障碍。语言和文化的关系异常紧密，语言是文化的组成部分也是文化的载体;语言的使用反映着文化的内涵。禁忌语作为一种特殊的语言现象普遍存在于每一种文化之中。不同语言、不同文化背景下的禁忌语言存在着巨大差异。正是因为英汉禁忌语在一定程度上折射出中西方形态各异的社会文化背景，反映出不同的社会心理状态和语言文化内涵，因此很有必要探讨中英禁忌语在跨文化语境中的差异及应用。本研究通过对中英禁忌语的比较和对照，分析了他们的异同并讨论了如何在跨文化语境中避免不当的禁忌语使用。 关键词：中西跨文化交际 ；语言；文化；禁忌语 Contents Abstract………………………………………………………………………..
