The analysis of teaching material
The material of this class is the Warming-up and Reading part taken from Unit 9. This unit centers on music and movies that students like or prefer, including favorite music and movies, the reasons, the results and so on. Warming-up is presented by some pictures that are related to different movies.
This reading material mainly introduces different kinds of movies. The passage consists of 4 paragraphs. The first paragraph is about the reason why I watch different movies. The second part talks about comedies. The third part tells about drama or documentaries. The last part is about scary movies. Consequently, it is easy for students to understand the passage. However, some new words and expressions will increase the reading difficulty.
The analysis of learning condition
The students are from Grade 3 in a key middle school in Cixi. As middle school students, they have achieved English level, generally at level 4 and they can use some strategies to help them understand the passage. Due to the familiarity with the topic, students are willing to air their opinions on the topic. They are also interested in group work, so they will be easily activated through some discussion and group work. They are familiar with the topic of movies, but they have not known how to make a specific travel plan before. Furthermore, their vocabulary is limited, which increased their difficulties in understanding some sentences.

(1) Predict the content of the passage based on the title.
(2) Skim the passage and summarize the passage with the help of the topic sentence of each paragraph.
(3) Scan the passage and find out the specific information such as the feelings when the author watches different kinds of movies.
