AbstractPCPisakindofstrongtoxicity,nondegradablepersistentorganicpollutant.WhenPCPentersintotheenvironment,itismostlydistributedinsolidmatixsuchassoils.Asaresearch,itismeaningfultoinvestigateremediationtechnologyforPCPremediation.Theelectrokinetic(EK) removalof pentachlorophenol(PCP)incontaminated soilsisdifficultbecauseitcanbedissociatedatdifferentpHalongsoilcolumnandtransportedconverselyintheregionnearanodeandcathode.Inpresentstudy,apermeablereactivebarrier(PRB)filledwithreactivePd/FeparticleswasinstalledbetweenanodeandcathodetoreachthedechlorinationofPCPwhenittransportedthroughthePRB.WhenPRBwas installedatthepositionof0.3(x/L,normalizeddistancefromanode),PCPinanodesideofPRBcouldtransportthroughPRBwhileincathodesidewasaccumulatednearPRB. PCPcouldbehardlydechlorinatedbyPd/FeinPRBbecauseofthehighpHinthecompartment. WhenPRBwasinstalledatthepositionof0.5andPRBpHwasconditionedbyperiodicalinjectionofHAc,49%ofPCPwasremoved,and22.9%wasrecoveredas pHenolwhichwasmostlycollectedincatholyte.ThemechanismforPCPremovalwas proposedastheEKtransportofPCPtoPRBcompartment,completedechlorinationof PCPtopHenolbyPd/FeinPRBcompartment,andsubsequentremovalofpHenolby electroosmosis.ThisstudyprovedtheEKcoupledwithPd/FePRBwaseffectivefortheremediationofPCPcontaminatesoil.InthecoupledEK/PRBsystemwhichwasusedforthecontaminatedsoilremediation,thecumulativeelectroosmoticflowwasthelarestwhenPRBwasinstalledinthemiddle. ThesoilbetweenPRBandanodewasweaklyacidic,andthesoilbetweenPRBandcathodewasalkaline,whichwasconductivetothemigrationofPCPtoPRB. What’smore,thepHvalueofanodicliquidwasthelowestwhichwasinfavorofmaintainingtheweaklyacidicenvironmentofPRB,sothehydrogenationreductionofPCPwaseasiertoproceed.However,thePRBwasseverelycorrodedwhenitwasinstalledatanodeandsodiumhydroxideprotectivefilmwouldbeformedwhenPRBwasinstalledatcathode,whichwouldinfluenceitsperformance.WhenPRBwasinstalledinthemiddleofthesystem,onlyasmallamountofreactivePd/Feparticleswerecorrodedandnosodiumhydroxideprotectivefilmwasobserve
