AbstractIntelligent home gateway is the core unit of the smart home system. In the past, the smart home system used the PC as the control center, but now the smart home system uses embedded home intelligent gateway as the core. Currently, embedded intelligent home gateway generally uses Linux operating system as the software platform and the hardware individually designed depending on the application demands as the hardware platform. Android, as an open-source platform, has provided rich UI development widgets, flexible, internal mechanism and complete database engine.In this thesis we propose a design scheme of intelligent home gateway, in which Android smartphone and ZigBee coordinator is utilized as the intelligent home gateway’s hardware platform. The application programe of intelligent home gateway is constructed based on this hardware platform. The software solution of our proposal can be divided into ZigBee communication module, network communication module, image acquisition module, data storage module, data processing module, and application module. The connection between Android smartphone and ZigBee coordinator based on Arduino is implemented and three connection solutions for short-range USB data cable , Bluetooth and remote GPRS is also designed in this thesis. The intelligent home gateway based on Android platform developed by this thesis can be used in the home environment monitoring system. The gateway provids some practical functions to user, for example: home environment data monitoring, dangerous situations reminding, video surveillance, alarm image capture.
