I. Consonant Stops in American English;Pronunciation
;Vowel Lengthening
The vowel sound before voiced stops has a longer duration than the vowel sound before unvoiced stops. Notice the difference in vowel duration in the following minimal pairs.

When linking consonant and y sound (in you or your), the consonant sound should blend into the next y sound (in you or your) with no break between words and without accidentally adding an extra vowel sound between the words. ;5 Look at the underlined consonant + you /
