The interrelationship of written and spoken language is an intrinsically motivating reflection of language and culture and society. How to integrate the four skills? Experiential Learning: Teachers do not simply tell students about how language works; instead, they give students opportunities to use language. (1) One learns best by ‘doing’, by active experimentation. (2) Inductive learning by discovery activates strategies that enable students to’take charge’ of their own learning progress. American educator, John Dewey: How to integrate the four skills? Task-based Teaching: (1) An emphasis on learning to communicate through interaction in the target language. (2) The introduction of authentic texts into the learning situation. (3) Opportunities for learners to focus not only on language, but also on the learning process itself. Task-based Teaching: (4) The learner’s own personal experiences as important contributing elements to classroom learning.
