AbstractAccording to the Comparison between the internet protocol IPv4 and IPv6, the paper showsthat the IPv4 will be replaced by IPv6 necessirily. It focuses on two aspects: one aspect is the shortcoming of the traditional network layer protocol IPv4, such as the shortage of IP addresses, routing efficiency, lack of quality of service and so on; another aspect is the improvements and new features of the next generation IPv6 network layer protocol, such as the large address space, improved routing structure, improved service quality assurance and so on.IPv6 is a reliable, manageable, secure and efficient long-term solution of the IP network. It is necessiry for making the long-term network development plans and regulating the future directionof the networkss application to study the theory and technical issues of IPv6.We should pay attention to achieve the network management of the pure IPv6 network or the coexistence of the IPv4 host and IPv6. This paper forcus on the research of IPv6 network management platform, including the management of the performance, security and fault.At present, the IPv4-based local area network management technology is very mature, but it is short of the network managementpure research of IPv6 and the IPv4/IPv6 mixed networkenvironment.
