AbstractTheexplosivegrowthoftheInternethasexposedsomepitfallsofIPv4,suchasaddressexhaustion,overloadingofbackbonerouters’routetablecapacity.IPv6,asthenextgenerationinternetprotocol,istosolvetheseproblems,andatthesametimetoadapttothefuturedevelopmentoftheInternetandinternetservice.IPv4-to-IPv6transitionisalong-termprocess.InIPv6deployment,thecompatibilityproblemsamongvariousIPv6implementationsaswellasbetweenIPv6andIPv4systemsonlycanbesolvedthroughthoroughtesting.Inordertodemonstrateinteroperability,differentvendors’equipmentfirstlyshallpassconformancetesting.ConformancetestingisthemostimportantwaytoimprovereliabilityofIPv6implementations.ThispaperdiscussedtheconformancetestingofIPv6specificationaimedatdesignandimplementationofaprotocolconformancetestingsystem.AccordingtothefeaturesofIPv6specification,severalaspects,suchastestmethod,testcasegenerationandtestcasedescription,weretakenintoaccountintestingsystemdesign.Basedontheseconsiderations,aconformancetestingsystemadoptingremotetestmethodwasdesigned.Inthesystem,Tclisusedasthetestcasedescriptionlanguage,andWinPcapisusedforsendingandreceivingpackets.Testcasedescriptioncommandsweredesignedandimplemented,whichisthecriticalpartoftestingsystemimplementation.Finally,thetestingsystemwasappliedtoseveralIPv6specificationimplementationsandtheresultswereanalyzed.Theresultsdemonstratedtheeffectivenessofthetestingsystem.ThispaperalsopointedoutsomeshortcomingsoftestcasedescriptioninseveralpublishedpapersthatuseTclasthetestcasedescriptionlanguage,andmadesomeimprovements.Inthewayoftestcasedatadescription,apacketconstructionmethodwasdesigned.Thismethodisconvenienttoconstructavarietyofnormalorerroneouspacketseffectively.Inthewayoftestcasebehaviordescription,thetwoprocedures,packetreceivingandpacketparsing,areencapsulatedinonlyoneTclextensioncommand,whichneedsnopriorassumptionofthenumberofpacketstobereceived.Theformerpolicycanavoiderroneousverdictwhenexecutingtestcasesunderrealisticnetworkenvironments.KeyWords:IPv6Specification,Conforma
