STUDYONARTIFACTSOFMRICAUSEDBYFIXEDPARTIALDENTURESABSTRACTPurpose:Thein-vitrostudyaimedtoresearchwhatwasthebestsampleforexperimentsontheMRIartifactcausedbyoralprostheses(madeofNi-Cror86.2%-Aualloy).Theintra-oralstudyobservedandcomparedMRIartifactscausedbyporcelain-fused-to-metal(PFM)basecrownswhichweremadeofNi-Cralloyor86.2%-Aualloyinthevolunteer’soralcavity.ThefindingsofthisstudywillprovidepatientswhoneedMRIfollow-upswithanexperiment-basedreference.Materialsandmethods:3rawmaterialmodules,castmodulesandcrownsmadeofNi-Cralloyand86.2%-Aualloywereprepared.Thesamplewasplacedinthecenterofthewaterphantomandwasscannedbya1.5Teslamagneticresonancescanner(axialandcoronalscans,GESignaLX).15MRimagesweregotandsavedfromeverysample.Crownswerechosenasthesampleoftheintra-oralstudy.6samplesweredividedinto2groups–theNi-CrPFMbasecrownsgroupandthe86.2%-AuPFMbasecrownsgroup.Eachgroupincluded3samples.Fabricatedwasthefixeddevicewhichwasdesignedtoplacethesamplearounddentalarchsafelyandstably.Thesamplewasputintheoralcavityofavolunteerwhowasscannedbya1.5Teslamagneticresonancescanner(axialandsagittalscans,GESignaLX).17MRimagesweregotandsavedfromeverysample.AidedbyAdobePhotoshopandAreaCalculatesoftwares,theimagesandartifactswereanalyzedandmeasured.SAS8.2wasusedforgroupttest.Results:Thein-vitrostudyshowsthattheareaofartifactscausedbyNi-Crrawmaterialmodulesrangefrom267to22428pixels;thatoftheartifactscausedbycastmodulesrangefrom62to5318pixels;theareaofartifactscausedbysinglePFMbasecrownrangefrom894to18140pixels.Theareaofartifactscausedby86.2%-Aurawmaterialmodulesrangefrom200to5411pixels;thatoftheartifactscausedbycastmodulesrangefrom112to1550pixels;theareaoftheartifactscausedbysinglePFMbasecrownrangefrom131to1155pixels.ThedifferenceintheareaofartifactsbetweenNi-CrrawmaterialmodulesandNi-Crcastmodulesisstatisticallysignificant(P＜0.01).Thedifferenceintheareaofartifactsbetween86.2%-Aurawmaterialmodulesand86.2%-Aucastmodulesisalsosignificant(P＜0.01).TheareaofartifactscausedbyNi-Crsinglecrownisalsosignif
