Unit 17 Great women Period: Date: Type of lesson: Warming-up Listening Teaching Aims: 1. Learn how to describe people in English 2. Improve the students’ abilities of listening Teaching focus: 1. Train the Ss’ listening ability. 2. Master some words for describing people and make sure they can use them correctly. Teaching Aids: Tape-recorder and some pictures. Teaching Procedures Part1. Warming-up Step1. lead-in People often admired great persons especially great women. Do you think it difficult for women to succeed? Can you tell us some famous women? Step2. Ask the students to look at pictures of four great women. Divide the students into groups to discuss the following questions. Let the students think out more questions. Possible questions: ① Who are they? ② When did they live? ③ Where are they from? ④ What kind of work did they do? ⑤ What made them famous? What do you know about them? ⑥ Do you know a woman who really inspires you? Describe her and explain why you admire her. Part2. Listening The great women did a lot for the world. Now you are young, but if we study hard , we’ll do a lot for people in the future, just like them. Now let’s listen to the tape. Alice is talking with Lucy about her old school friends. Step1.
